Barbara J. Arnold, MD, is an experienced ophthalmologist, serving Sacramento, California, with a passion and exceptional talent for art. Artists believe that vision goes beyond just “seeing” by establishing a connection between the eye and the brain. Dr. Arnold’s deep understanding of how art relates to vision adds an essential layer of care and compassion that she offers her patients. 

Dr. Arnold graduated with a medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, in Denver, Colorado. She followed this with an internship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and returned to the University of Colorado to pursue a 3-year residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Arnold demonstrated her passion for exceptional eye care and took an additional year solely devoted to retinal diseases as a fellow at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Following most of her educational journey, Dr. Arnold created her own practice in Sacramento, California, where she brings love and care to her community. Dr. Arnold provides several essential services, such as pre-operative evaluation for cataract surgery. She can also treat many common eye conditions, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinal disease, and macular degeneration.

If you’re experiencing blurred vision, Dr. Arnold can partner with you to detmine which custom-fitted lens implants are right for you. When indicated, YAG laser capsulotomy procedures are available in-office. Dr. Arnold may also perform laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy and some retinal conditions, such as retinal holes or tears.  

Dr. Arnold serves as a voting member of the House of Delegates for the American Medical Association and California Medical Association. She regularly gives back to her community by teaching as a volunteer professor at the University of California School of Medicine, Davis. She also takes pride in her involvement with the Sacramento Rotary Club. Dr. Arnold loves showcasing the beauty of her community and regu
